One of the four wildlife crowns issued by Sierra Leone in 2005, this coin has a legal tender value of $1 in its country of origin. Africa has such a diversity of wildlife and so many different species can be seen as emblematic of the continent, but the giraffe has always caused such marvel and is such a singularity, existing no where else in the world. With its long neck (with the same 7 vertebrae as humans) a giraffe can feed from the tops of trees and also drink the morning dew from the upper leaves at their favorite time to feed. They can go for weeks without drinking from any other source. When they do visit a watering hole they have to engage in the awkward endeavor of getting their treetop high heads down below their feet. It’s not just a question of position.Their neck veins contain valves and a network of tiny veins that prevent them from suffering blackouts or vertigo when they lower their heads.

While dolphins, penguins, and a number of other sea mammals practice porpoising (a behavior to increase locomotion by “leaping” from the water) I’ve never heard of turtles doing this, but this loggerhead seems to be styled in just such an act. Go figure. At least this world coin’s design does a good job at showing us a startlingly good image of a sea turtle rendered in a Prism applique on this brilliant proof-like world coin. If you are a collector of animal or sea life world coins then this is one add to your world coin collection.
Patriotic takeoff on the famous Flying “V” guitar featured in one of my other eBay offerings this week. We can thank Ted McCarty for establishing the precedent for bold and innovative design in solid-body electric guitars with his Flying V guitar. Introduced by Gibson in 1958, the flying V was made famous by musicians such as Albert King and Jimi Hendrix. This coin from our collection of guitar coins would make a great gift for that guitar enthusiast in your life!

As legend would have it, it was Buddha himself who gave each animal its place in the Asian zodiac. When he called all the animals together following the creation, only twelve felt it necessary to attend the meeting. As a reward for their effort in making the long journey, Buddha offered each of them their own year, which would from then on bear the name of that animal. In addition, each animal was also given the opportunity to directly influence history during that time – and thus, in turn, the fate of those humans born in that year. Analogous to the characteristics of the respective animal symbol, and by means of your date of birth, you too can read those characteristic traits that may – or may not – apply to you. 1915, 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999—People born in the Year of the Rabbit are articulate, talented, and ambitious. They are virtuous, reserved, and have excellent taste. Rabbit people are admired, trusted, and are often financially lucky. They are fond of gossip but are tactful and generally kind. Rabbit people seldom lose their temper. They are clever at business and being conscientious, never back out of a contract. They would make good gamblers for they have the uncanny gift of choosing the right thing. However, they seldom gamble, as they are conservative and wise. They are most compatible with those born in the years of the Sheep, Pig, and Dog.
