This beautiful uncirculated Crown was issued by the government of the Isle of Man to commemorate the International Year of the Ocean in 1998. Featured on the reverse of this Crown is an Antarctic sealife scene which shows reticent penguins considering the danger posed by two capering seals.
One of the wildlife crowns issued as part of the Preserve Planet Earth series, this one features a mother seal and her pup. There are six species of Arctic ice seals: ringed seals, bearded seals, harp seals, hooded seals, spotted seals, and ribbon seals. The Arctic ice seals breed on ice. There are two common predators that Arctic ice seals contend with that Antarctic ice seals do not. One common predator of all Arctic ice seals is the polar bear. The polar bears do not always consume the seal meat, but they do consume the blubber. Arctic ice seal also have to contend with local populations of humans who hunt the seals for meat and fur. This Eisenhower Dollar sized crown, is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, and has a legal tender value of One Crown in its country of origin.
