The Olympic Games and International Exposition, Paris 1900, silvered-bronze plaquette, designed and signed by Louis-Oscar Roty, renowned French medalist (1846-1911) who at one time worked for Tiffany & Company in New York. In addition to his many medallic offerings, he also designed the”Semeuse” image, the woman sowing seeds, that used to appear on most French silver coins. Used as a gift for Judges and Referees, the obverse of this piece depicts a winged youth, the New Century, taking the torch from the declining figure of the Old Century. The reverse shows the Avenue of Pavilions.
