The fourth and youngest son of Constantine the Great. He ruled Italy, Africa and the Balkans upon his father’s death. In 340 his brother, Constantine II, invaded Italy and was killed by the troops of Constans. He fought the barbarians and in 343 visited Britain. He was killed by the usurper Magnentius in 350. Constans I is often referred to as The Gay Emperor.
