This banknote, listed in Krause’s Standard Catalog of World Paper Money as Pick R-133, was not backed by gold, but by industrial and agricultural goods. On April 14, 1918 the German “Darlehnskasse Ost” (Eastern Credit Bank) at Kowno (now Lithuanian Kaunas) issued new Mark banknotes (“Kassenschein”) with the front in German and the back in Latvian and Lithuanian.
