The Kingdom of the Netherlands was formed in 1815. In 1830 Belgium seceded and formed a separate kingdom. The Netherlands remained neutral in World War I, but suffered invasion and occupation by Germany in World War II. A modern, industrialized nation, the Netherlands is also a large exporter of agricultural products. The country was a founding member of NATO and the EEC (now the EU), and participated in the introduction of the euro in 1999. All the coins in this set are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition as released by the Mint. These sets make beautiful and educational gifts for young numismatists and are invaluable in putting the final touches on exceptional school projects.
Following its heyday as a world power during the 15th and 16th centuries, Portugal lost much of its wealth and status with the destruction of Lisbon in a 1755 earthquake, occupation during the Napoleonic Wars, and the independence in 1822 of Brazil as a colony. A 1910 revolution deposed the monarchy; for most of the next six decades, repressive governments ran the country. In 1974, a left-wing military coup installed broad democratic reforms. The following year, Portugal granted independence to all of its African colonies. Portugal is a founding member of NATO and entered the EC (now the EU) in 1986. All the coins in this set are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition as released by the Mint. These sets make beautiful and educational gifts for young numismatists and are invaluable in putting the final touches on exceptional school projects.
This set of ten Crisp Uncirculated banknotes represents issues from the ten countries that have been approved for admission into the European Union. Once they are members of the EU their currency will change to the Euro and these notes will become obsolete. The ten countries are: Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovenia and Slovakia. According to Krause’s Standard Catalog of World Paper Money these ten notes have a market value of $35.25, so the beautiful four ring binder and descriptive cards included in the set are a bonus. Beautiful set that would make a great addition to any collector of world banknotes.
