The Republic of Tatarstan is a federal subject of Russia. The Republic is located in the center of the East European Plain, approximately 500 miles east of Moscow and lies between the Volga River and the Kama River, extending east to the Ural mountains. It has an area of 26,191 square miles. This coin would make a good addition to any world coins collection.

Russia – 50th Anniversary of Sputnik Orbit – 3 Roubles – 2007 – Proof Silver Crown Three Rouble Sputnik silver crown: The Central Bank of Russia has issued a commemorative coin honoring the 50th anniversary of the launch of Sputnik. Minted from sterling silver, the three ruble coin depicts the first satellite on the reverse. The obverse features a relief image of the Emblem of the Bank of Russia – the two-headed eagle with wings down and the semicircular inscription under it “???? ??????” (BANK OF RUSSIA). The inscriptions along the rim divided by dots indicates the denomination of the coin “??? ?????” (THREE RUBLES) and the year of issue “2008”, between them – the indication of the metal sign in accordance with the Mendeleyev Periodic System, the fineness, the mint mark of the Moscow Mint and the fine metal content.
Issued to mark the 22nd Summer Olympics in Moscow in 1980. These were the Olympic Games that were boycotted by the United States, much to the chagrin of the American athletes who had trained for this event for years and were forced to watch from the sidelines. Interesting coin that would make a nice addition to any Olympics or world coin collection.
