Liberia Millennium Chinese Lunar Series -Zodiac Year Of The Rooster $5 2000 Unc

$7.99

As legend would have it, it was Buddha himself who gave each animal its place in the Asian zodiac. When he called all the animals together following the creation, only twelve felt it necessary to attend the meeting. As a reward for their effort in making the long journey, Buddha offered each of them their own year, which would from then on bear the name of that animal. In addition, each animal was also given the opportunity to directly influence history during that time – and thus, in turn, the fate of those humans born in that year. Analogous to the characteristics of the respective animal symbol, and by means of your date of birth, you too can read those characteristic traits that may – or may not – apply to you. 1921, 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005—People born in the Year of the Rooster are deep thinkers, capable, and talented. They like to be busy and are devoted beyond their capabilities and are deeply disappointed if they fail. People born in the Rooster Year are often a bit eccentric, and often have rather difficult relationship with others. They always think they are right and usually are! They frequently are loners and though they give the outward impression of being adventurous, they are timid. Rooster people

Eritrea Rhinocerous Crown 1994 Uncirculated

$14.99

Issued by authority of the African country of Eritrea, this beautiful uncirculated crown features an African Rhinocerous. A Rhinoceros, commonly called a rhino, is any of five surviving species of odd-toed ungulate in the family Rhinocerotidae, all native to Africa or Asia. The Rhino is characterised by large size, one of the few remaining megafauna animals surviving today, with all of the species capable of reaching two thousand pounds or more in weight. Rhinos sport one or two horns on the center of the forehead, and when there are two horns, they are aligned one in front of the other. These herbivorous giants have a thick protective skin, formed from layers of collagen positioned in a lattice structure. They also share an acute hearing and sense of smell, but poor eyesight over any distance. Most rhinoceros live to be about 40 years old. A male rhinoceros is called a bull, a female a cow, and the young a calf; a group of rhinoceros is called a “crash”.

Liberia Hippopotamus Crown 1994 Uncirculated

$14.99

More agile than it looks a hippo can gallop at 18 mph in an emergency and half that speed in a jouncy trot, normally the fastest gait. Turns on a dime, climbs steep banks, but is unable to jump and won’t even step over obstacles. Lies down and rises by first sitting down and up on haunches (like pigs). Seen underwater, hippos cross-walking on the bottom levitate like moonwalkers; their swimming movement is a gallop. As a hippo submerges, you can see its nostrils close and its ears fold into recesses. Resurfacing (usually in under a minute, maximum 5 minutes), the nostrils open as the hippo exhales and the ears spring erect, throwing off showers of droplets. Sleeping hippos rise to breathe, resurfacing as automatically as breathing itself. This Beautiful Hippopotamus crown from the Republic of Liberia was issued in 1994.

Liberia Leopard Crown 1995 BU

Leopards are found over a wider area than any of the other large cats. Ranging across most of the African continent with the exception of desert regions, parts of Asia Minor and the Middle East to India, Pakistan, China, Siberia, much of mainland and offshore islands of southeast Asia. There are more than 20 subspecies and are included in the genus Panthera. It is one of the roaring cats, capable of producing a deep sawing roar similar to that of the jaguar. The leopard is also like the jaguar in coat pattern, with dark spots or rosettes. The size of the leopard varies greatly from region to region. There are subspecies of large leopards in Iran and West Africa and small subspecies in Somalia and Java. The leopard averages between five and eight feet in length and weighs from 60 to 210 pounds in the wild. Distribution of the leopard reflects the diverse adaptability of the group, extending throughout the African continent and much of southeast Asia, including the Arabian peninsula and Indonesian islands. It is at home in woodlands, lowland forests and mountain heights, savannas, and even dry steppe habitats. The leopard’s remarkable adaptability to different environments is an indication that it is basically an unspecialized animal, favoring forest and forest boundary habitats where it can utilize trees for protection and observation platforms.

Rep Of Sierra Leone WWII Series Battle Of Britain 2005 $1 Unc Crown

$14.99

” What General Weygand has called the Battle of France is over. The Battle of Britain is about to begin. Upon this battle depends the survival of Christian civilization. Upon it depends our own British life, and the long continuity of our institutions and our Empire. The whole fury and might of the enemy must very soon be turned on us. Hitler knows that he will have to break us in this Island or lose the war. If we can stand up to him, all Europe may be free and the life of the world may move forward into broad, sunlit uplands. But if we fail, then the whole world, including the United States, including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new Dark Age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science. Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves that, if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, This was their finest hour.” Winston Churchill House of Commons, June18th 1940

Liberia Pioneers Of The West Series Daniel Boone 1996 $1 Crown Unc

$14.99

Daniel Boone (1734 – 1820) was the quintessential American pioneer and trailblazer. Born November 2, 1734 in a cabin near present day Reading, Pennsylvania, Daniel Boone learned the skills of a woodsman from an early age. While still a boy he hunted as an expert for game to feed his family and grew to know the risks and opportunities required for survival in the wilds of the American continent. Married to a pioneer woman, Rebecca Bryan, at the age of 22 Boone epitomized the life of the stalwart frontier father. In 1769 Boone was taken on as a guide in an expedition to establish the best overland route to Kentucky. Making their way through the Cumberland Gap into the heart of the Appalachians Boone realized that they had ventured into a paradise of a wilderness. In 1775 Boone returned with his family and established the fort and settlement of Boonesborough. When the Revolutionary War broke out Boone found himself and his family drawn into the frontier struggle when a band of Shawnee warriors, encouraged by the British to harass colonial settlements, kidnapped Boone’s daughter. Within two days Boone had caught up to the raiding party and successfully rescued the young hostages. He was later captured by the same tribe, escaped, and used the intelligence he had gather to bolster Boonesborough’s defenses against an attack by combined British and Shawnee forces. Boonesborough survived attack and a 10 day siege, impressing the Shawnee enough to cause them and subsequently the British to abandon their goal of the settlement’s destruction. After the War he traveled west after loosing all of his Kentucky property in litigation once Kentucky was admitted into the Union. He took his family deep into Spanish controlled Missouri to St. Louis. His holdings in this territory were lost once it became part of the Union as his creditors in Kentucky were intent on gaining all they could though the pursuit of renewed litigation. Daniel Boone died on September 26, 1820 at the age of 85. In 1845 the remains of Boone and his wife were moved to Kentucky to rest in the great pioneer’s “hunter’s paradise.”
