Niue – Imperial Faberge Egg – $2 – 2010 – Oval-Shaped Proof Silver Crown – COA – Imperial Faberge Eggs, known also as Tsar’s Faberge Eggs, are considered masterpieces of the jeweler’s art and a symbol of extravagance and luxury. Created by Peter Carl Faberge and his assistants for Tsars Alexander III and Nicholas II of Russia, the eggs were made of gold and silver and decorated with enamels and precious stones. The Polish Mint (Mennica Polska) is releasing a new series of coins dedicated to these extraordinary pieces of art. The first one is the “Coronation Egg.” The center of the obverse features the Coronation Egg from 1897 with a miniature coach, a replica of Catherine the Great’s coach of 1793 which was used in the coronation procession of Tsar Nicholas II and Alexandra Fedorovna. At the top is a semicircular inscription, “Imperial Faberge Eggs” and in the background a scroll matt ornament. At the bottom of the reverse we see an open “Spring Flowers Egg” (1899-1903) with a miniature basket of wood anemones inside. Above, the Niue Island’s Coat of Arms with the inscription “Elizabeth II.” Around the head a decorative neo-rococo scrolled ornament and the issuing country’s name: Niue Island. On the right we see the nominal value of the coin, 2 Dollars and on the left the year of issue: 2010.n This beautiful legal tender proof silver crown was struck from 56.56 grams of .925 silver for an Actual Silver Weight (ASW) of 1.68 Troy Ounces of .999 fine silver. The coin measures 55.6 millimeters by 41.6 millimeters and comes with a Polish Mint issued Certificate of Authenticity.
