To commemorate Pope John Paul II the National Bank of Poland has issued the first Polish collector note. It entered circulation on October 16th, 2006, the anniversary of Karol Wojtyla’s election to the papacy. The front of the note contains a portrait of the Pope performing a greeting gesture, against the background of a stylized globe, which is a symbol of the pontiff’s universal nature. The back of the note shows a scene of Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski paying homage to the Pope, which emphasizes the Polish context of this pontificate. This note would make a beautiful gift to anyone of the Catholic faith or collector of Polish or world banknotes.
