The adventurous spirit of those who sailed towards the American continent is recognized in this issue. Now I like the smell of money well enough but this is one step beyond and this coin actually emits the smell of gunpowder and smoke when the image of the ship is rubbed! And it’s appropriate considering that the English carrack, the “Mary Rose,” saw service from 1510 until her sinking on July 18th of 1545 during an engagement with the Spanish Armada. Apparently the crew forgot to close the lower decks gun ports as she heeled to in a breeze causing her to fill with water drowning all but 35 of her undisciplined crew! And it’s appropriate considering that the “USS Chesapeake”, a 36-gun sailing frigate of the U.S. Navy, was one of the six original frigates authorized for construction by the Naval Act of 1794. She saw service from 1799 until May 20th 1813 when she was defeated by HMS Shannon. It was from the deck of the “Chesapeake” that the immortal command “Don’t give up the ship!” was uttered. China Cute Color Panda And Great Wall 2005 Neat Gift Item

Both the Great Wall and the Panda are uniquely emblematic of China and are considered national treasures. Isle of Man Railroad Coin The Rocket One Crown 1998 BU
$19.99The Rocket is considered by many to be the forerunner of all the later generations of steam locomotives. It was designed and built by George Stephenson with the help of Henry Booth and his son, Robert, for the 1829 Rainhill Trials. The Trials were held by the Liverpool and Manchester Railway to find the best locomotive engine for their railway line that would serve the two northern English cities. On that day, some 15,000 people came along to see the race of the locomotives. During the race, the Rocket reached speeds of 24mph during the 20 laps of the course. This was due to several new design features. It was the first locomotive to have a multi-tube boiler with 25 copper tubes rather than a single flue or twin flue. Plus, the blast pipe increased the draught to the fire by concentrating exhaust steam at the base of the chimney. This all meant that the boiler generated more power (steam), so the Rocket was able to go faster and thus secure its place in history. The Rocket can be found at the Science Museum in London.

$19.99Mount Pilatus is a mountain located near Lucerne, Switzerland, so named because local lore has it that Pontius Pilate was buried there. The 7,000 foot summit can be reached by taking a ride on the Pilatus Railway, the world’s steepest cog railway. From a starting point in Alpnachstad and depending on snow conditions, the train runs from May to November. During the summer season, a popular route for tourists involves taking a boat from Lucerne across Lake Lucerne to Alpnachstad, going up on the cog railway, coming down on the aerial tramway, and taking a bus back to Lucerne.

Founded by Belgian entrepreneur Georges Nagelmackers, the Orient Express was the unrivaled standard of excellence for rail travel for almost 100 years. Its route began in Paris and wound its way through some of Europe’s major cities including Lausanne, Switzerland, Milan, Venice and Trieste, Italy, Belgrade, Yugoslavia, Sofia in Bulgaria and Edirne, Turkey before reaching its final destination in Istanbul (Constantinople). Sadly, it ceased to operate in 1977.

$19.99The Mallard is an express locomotive with a wind-tunnel tested, aerodynamic body that allowed it to reach speeds of over 100 mph. Designed by Sir Nigel Gresley and built in the 1930’s, Number 4468 Mallard is a London and North Eastern Railway Class A4 4-6-2 Pacific steam locomotive. Mallard is the holder of the world speed record for steam locomotives at 126 mph (203 km/h). The record was achieved on July 3, 1938. She was in service until 1963 when she was retired after a lifetime of more than 1.5 million miles of service.
Isle of Man Railroad Coin The General One Crown 1998 BU
$19.99The General entered service in the city of Paterson, NJ, in December of 1855. She was then shipped from Philadelphia to Georgia and then by rail to her home, the yard of the Western and Atlantic Railroad in Atlanta. The American 4-4-0 would run on the W&ARR’s 138 miles of track throughout most of her life, mostly on a run between Chattanooga and Atlanta. She became immortalized when on April 12, 1862, 21 Union spies stole The General from Big Shanty and ran her to Ringgold, Georgia. When the General ran out of fuel, the spies hastily disembarked and fled. Unable to move to a side track under her own power, the General got an assist from her
‘sister’ The Texas, who pushed the engine to Greysville for wood and water, then pulled her to Ringgold for repair. After the capture of Andrews’ Raiders in the forests of North Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama, The General hauled them back to Atlanta on May 2.

This crown features the 1957 Gilera being driven by legendary biker Bob McIntyre. It has a legal tender value of one crown in the Isle of Man. These coins are the size of an Eisenhower Dollar, and would make a great gift for any motorcycle enthusiast, even if that happens to be you.
