Poland Bubo Bubo Owl Coin 2005 2 Zlote Nordic Gold Coin

$19.99

The Eurasian Eagle Owl (Bubo bubo) is a species of horned owl resident in much of Europe and Asia. The Eagle Owl is a very large and powerful bird, only slightly smaller than the Golden Eagle. It is the largest species of owl with a wingspan of up to seven feet. Adults can weigh in excess of eight pounds, in comparison the common Barn Owl weighs about a pound. It mainly feeds on small mammals but will take prey up to the size of foxes and young deer. It will also take many other birds including other birds of prey. It is largely nocturnal and is found in mountains and forests with cliffs and rocky areas. It usually nests on cliff ledges. They live for around twenty years although like many other bird species in captivity they can live much longer, perhaps up to sixty years. The Eagle Owl’s scientific name comes from its deep booming call. Named for their call the Bubo bubo owl ranges from throughout Europe across Russia to its Pacific coast, South to Iran and Pakistan and into China and the Koreas. Would make a nice gift for any collectors of wildlife or world coins.

Gold Plated Color Panda Great Wall Of China 2005

$19.99

One of two very cute and cuddly Panda pieces acquired from a Chinese Mint represented at the ANA Show in San Francisco in 2005. Both the Great Wall and the Panda are uniquely emblematic of China and are considered national treasures. China has effectively used pandas as gifts to foreign zoos to stimulate deeper contacts and improve relations, as their gift of two Pandas to the National Zoo in Washington D.C. proved to be effective during the Cold War. China’s pride in this unique wildlife ambassador is currently now being matched by their efforts to restore the Panda’s threatened population. The latest inventory of the Panda population conducted by the Chinese government found the number of giant panda in the wild has increased from 1,100 in 1988 to more than 1,590 today. The present rapid growth taking place in China now promises both greater interest in these amazing creatures and some new challenges as people’s views of their native habitat change.

$49.99

Niue – Last Tasmanian Tiger – $1 – 2011 – Lenticular Brilliant Uncirculated Crown – Descriptive Card – The Tasmanian Tiger or Thylacine (Thylacinus cynocephalus), the world’s largest carnivorous marsupial once common throughout Australia and Papua New Guinea, is believed by many to have been hunted to extinction by the early European settlers of Tasmania, its last stronghold. Others believe that the Tasmanian Tiger survived the attempts at eradication and continues to exist in isolated groups in Tasmania’s rugged bush-land. Sightings of this shy and elusive creature persist to this day. Defined by a sensational Lenticular design, official legal tender status and flawless Brilliant Uncirculated quality, this prestigious tribute to the 75th anniversary of the last Tasmanian Tiger held in captivity is also notable for extremely limited availability. The coin features a vibrant ‘Moving Image’ design of Benjamin – the last known Tasmanian Tiger. A powerful illustration of the best in modern minting, this seamless, flowing Lenticular motif has been created from actual film footage of Benjamin taken by naturalist David Fleay! With a large, wolf-like head, tiger-like striped coat and wombat-like backwards-facing pouch, the Thylacinus cynocephalus (Tasmanian Tiger) is among the most intriguing elements of Australia

Malawi Endangered Frogs Amazon Horned Frog 10 Kwacha 2010 Proof Colored Coin

$24.99

Malawi – Endangered Frogs – Amazon Horned Frog – 10 Kwacha – 2010 – Proof Colored Coin – The Amazon Horned Frog (Ceratophrys cornuta) is a large amphibian that is generally found in freshwater marshes and pools throughout the Amazon Basin, from Colombia to Brazil. These rotund amphibians can grow to 8 inches in length and achieve their enormous girth by being generally indiscriminate about what they eat. Typical ambush predators, they squeeze their bodies into the forest substrate or leaf litter so only their heads protrude. When anything smaller than their own bodies happens by, they spring from the mud and swallow their prey whole, locking it in their jaws with their sharp teeth. They are aggressively territorial and voracious to a fault.

Malawi Endangered Frogs Golden Harlequin Frog 10 Kwacha 2010 Proof Colored Coin

$24.99

Malawi – Endangered Frogs – Golden Harlequin Frog – 10 Kwacha – 2010 – Proof Colored Coin – Harlequin frogs are found in neotropics from Costa Rica to Bolivia. They belong to the genus Atelopus and include about 80 species, and probably 35 not yet described. The vast majority (80%) of the harlequin frog species lives in forested mountains where rainfall is abundant. Most of them have a limited range of distribution. Harlequin frogs are usually active day and night. Harlequin frogs are small-to-medium size amphibians (20-60 mm from the tip of the nose to the vent) with females always lager than males. Females have usually a different color under their ventral parts. Rising temperatures, habitat destruction, and the spread of the deadly chytrid fungus have wiped out dozens of species of harlequin frogs in recent years. Further, most of the harlequin frog species are listed as critically endangered with a very high risk of extinction.
