Issued by Gibraltar and the Isle of Man in 1990 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the issuance of the world’s first adhesive stamp, introduced by the famous British reformer and inventor Sir Rowland Hill. The design by Henry Corboud showed the profile of young Queen Victoria, and became known the world over as the “Penny Black”. This piece is the world’s first “Pearl Black” coin, and in the years since its issuance has become exceedingly hard to find.
