This four medal set, struck in 24 carat gold over .999 fine silver, was issued as part of a special Congressional Edition to honor the traditions of the United States Congress and the role it used to play in protecting and promulgating American liberty. Each high relief medal was struck from 1.25 ounces of .999 silver from the original dies used to make the sets that were presented to each member of the 92nd Congress in 1971, then plated in 24 carat gold.
