Back
in September of 2000, retired, mentally unchallenged and with a golf game that
wasn't getting any better, I decided to put a few coins up for auction on eBay
working out of my house on my personal computer. My part-time avocation was soon
to become a full-time profession as a few auctions turned into DGLCoins.com, my
first website.
By 2003 I had outgrown the house and with a significant amount of
encouragement from my spouse to "get that stuff out of the house" I
opened a retail store in Palm Coast, Florida. Of course, the store led to a new
website which we operated as palmcoastcoins.com. By the middle of 2005 we had
run out of space in our 600 square foot facility. The need for a new location
combined with my wife's lifelong dream to live in the mountains of Western
North Carolina prompted our move to Black Mountain, NC which we accomplished in
November of 2005.
We are currently enjoying our 4,500 square foot facility located fifteen
minutes east of Asheville, NC, on Route 70, easily accessible from I-40 from
either Exit 64 or Exit 65.
I am joined by a
growing staff of six, consisting of our exacting octogenarian Liz, a spry 89
year old who runs our shipping department and keeps the Post Office on their
toes, Jessica, Yvonne and Sheri who process all the orders, answer the phones and
generally try to keep me out of trouble, Clark, our in-house webmaster and
photographer, responsible for this website, now in its eighth year and Bert who
has just come on board to manage our online auction sites on eBay, Amazon where
we are known as “blackmountaincoinsandmore.” We currently have an opening for a
full-time staff numismatist wanting to live and work in the beautiful mountains
of Western North Carolina. As he has done for the past seven years, R.D.,
a retired school teacher and long-time North Carolina resident living in
Mooresville, is helping me at coin shows.
November 1st, 2012 marked the seventh anniversary in this location and
now have a busy coin show schedule (which can be found on the right hand side
of our home page), participating in both regional as well as national coin
shows. I have also had a chance to get involved in our industry trade
association and in 2010 was honored by being re-elected to the Board of
Governors of the North Carolina Numismatic Association.
We hope you take a few
minutes or hours to peruse some of the more than 15,000 items we now offer on
our website, take advantage of some of the resources we offer and feel free to give us some feedback. We hope you enjoy your
visit with us and come back often.
Dan, Liz, Clark, Jessica, Yvonne, Sheri, Bert and R.D.
