This coin serves double duty as an American Numismatic Association (ANA) “Salute to Coin Collecting” and to mark the 25th Anniversary of the first Lunar Landing. Neil Armstrong, a former American astronaut, test pilot, and naval aviator, famous as the first human ever to set foot on the Moon. Armstrong’s first space flight was as command pilot of Gemini 8 in 1966. On this mission, he performed the first manned docking of two spacecraft together with pilot David Scott. Armstrong’s second and last space flight was as Mission Commander of the Apollo 11 moon landing in July 1969. On this famous”giant leap for mankind” Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin descended to the lunar surface and spent two and a half hours exploring, while Michael Collins orbited above.
