Northwest Africa, NWA 482, Lunar Meteorite Medal, Embedded Fragment, 2000. Numbered, COA . This “nickel” medallic issue with a photo insert of the Lunar surface and a specimen of the NWA 482 Lunar meteorite embedded. Each piece measures two inches in diameter and is 4.5 millimeters thick. Attached in a recessed crater on the front of the coin is an authentic specimen of the NWA 482 Found in the Sahara early in January 2001. Researchers have compared NWA 482 to the “Genesis Rock” returned by the Apollo 15 mission because of the high concentration of anorthosite contained in the meteorite. It is aged at approximately 4.5 billion years old and is the only white lunar meteorite found to date.
