(1829-1837) Capped Bust Half Dimes

In 1829, after a twenty-four year period when no Half Dimes were minted, the United States Mint began minting a new issue of the coin known as the "Capped Bust" series. The silver purity once again changed to .8924 silver, as it had been from 1795 to 1796. The "Capped Bust" series was issued until 1837. Interestingly, in 1837, the last year of this issue, the metallic composition again changed to .900 silver.
