Females weigh, on average, 185 pounds but can reach a weight of 330 pounds. Males average 250 pounds though can weigh as much as 450 pounds. The bear measures between five to seven feet in length and about three feet at shoulder height. In Spain, it is known as the Oso pardo cantabrico and regionally in Asturias, as Osu. It is timid and will avoid human contact whenever possible. The Cantabrian brown bear can live for approximately twenty-five to thirty years in the wild.
