Saint Paisius of Hilendar or Paisi Hilendarski (1722–1773) was a Bulgarian clergyman and a key Bulgarian National Revival figure. He is most famous for being the author of Istoriya Slavyanobolgarskaya, the second modern Bulgarian history after the work of Petar Bogdan Bakshev from 1667, “History of Bulgaria”. Most Bulgarians think of him as the forefather of the Bulgarian National Revival. This proof silver coin was issued in 1972 to mark the 250th Anniversary of his birth. It was struck from 20.5 grams of .900 silver for an Actual Silver Weight (ASW) of .5932 ounces. This coin was issued by authority of the Government of Bulgaria in 1972 with a mintage of 200,000 coins.
