The “Painters of the World” is an international, unique series of silver legal tender collector coins, launched in 2006. The collection of the magnificent works of art is dedicated to the best known painters in the world. All coins are rectangular in shape and depict the artists along with selected reproductions of their striking paintings. Claude Monet is the subject of the eighth coin in the series and commemorates the work of the greatest Impressionist painter. The obverse of the coin depicts a fragment of the work entitled “Woman with an Umbrella,” which was completed by the artist in 1886. The reverse shows the likeness of Monet himself and a fragment of one of his other paintings, “The Japanese Bridge,” completed in 1899.
