Which increase in value more, coins or currency?

Well, in my opinion, I would have to say old coins retain there value better than old currency.
Old currency is made of paper and represents (for example) one dollar.
The Silver Dollar Coin is worth a dollar and it carries that Dollars worth of Silver inside itself.
It is not at some bank waiting to be exchanged for the amount of silver printed on the note.

I don't necessarily agree that coins retain their value better than currency. A $1000 Treasury Note from 1890 recently sold for $2,255,000 which is not bad for a piece of paper with no intrinsic value Smile Laughing
