Just what do these people do? I heard a bit about them in passing on another forum, however no one gave an explanation of what they do

hmm,i am not 100% of this myself, however i think they just change one currency of paper money into another, at a price ofc

They are very much like banks, however they only deal with paper money i guess.

Actually, paper money dealers trade in banknotes which can be hundreds of years old or can be topical in nature. This has nothing to do with exchanging currency from one country for good old US Dollars. At an auction this year, a United States banknote called a "watermelon", sold for over a million dollars, and just last month two different US banknotes sold at auction for $2,100,000 EACH.
