Do the value of coins decrease when they are painted?

Hi,
I collect World Coins. To those of us that collect world Coins, painted is a bad thing; just as cleaning a coin is a bad thing.
But there are collectors of Painted Coins out there that really enjoy the field and will pay top dollar for their coins, such as the ?Corvette coin? from the Republic of Palau (it also has headlights that light up.)
It?s not my thing, but I sure won?t knock someone else?s hobby.
