This is a replica of a most unusual coin, likely struck in 1785 in England and subsequently circulated in New York. The design is astoundingly simple. The obverse of the coin consists only of the interlocking letters USA and is a design clearly adapted from the brass buttons of Continental Uniforms of the time. The reverse consists solely of 13 bars, thus the derivation of this coin’s name “Bar Copper”. As with all of the Gallery Mint reproductions, this piece is true to the original specifications as to metallic content, weight and size. It has the word COPY stamped on it as required by the Hobby Protection Act of 1973, Section 304.6. It would make a great hole filler in any United States type collection until the resources for the original come along.
