The Gobi Desert, located in the southern part of the country adjacent to P.R. of China is well known as a ã Prehistoric Window" for animals living there millions of years ago. It is the richest area known in fossil findings from dinosaurs, crocodiles, hippopotamus, flying lizards, turtles, horned animals, fishes, shells and insects that lived 40 to 70 million years ago. Investigations of egg and nest findings have closed the gap of knowledge about the reproduction of dinosaurs and other animals of that time. Evidence was found that at one time some major event caused sudden death of all these species. One of the most interesting finds was that of a Protoceratops that had been caught by a Velociraptor, both frozen in time in a skeletal embrace. Protoceratops was a sheep-sized, herbivorous dinosaur from Mongolia. Protoceratops had a large neck frill, which may have served to protect the neck, to anchor jaw muscles, or to impress other members of the species.
