E=mc2---since then everything is relative! Albert was born on March 14, 1879 in the German City of Ulm. At the age of 6 he began his school career in Munich. In 1895 he failed an examination which would have allowed him to study at the Eidgenšssische Technische Hochschule (ETH) in ZŸrich. The next trial was at the secondary school in Aarau. In 1896 he renounced his German citizenship but Swiss citizenship was not granted until 1901 so up to this date Einstein was considered to be stateless. Einstein graduated as a teacher of mathematics and physics but he had not impressed enough to achieve the appointment as an assistant at the ETH. He had to accept an appointment as technical expert- third class at the Patent Office in Bern, but in1905 he earned a doctorate from the University of ZŸrich. In the same year he presented his paper that is called today the special theory of relativity." From then until 1911 he made important contributions relative to theoretical physics, becoming a lecturer at Berne University, professor at ZŸrich University and being appointed a full professor at Prague University. In 1914 he was offered the research position in the Prussian Academy of Sciences and a chair at the University of Berlin. Einstein received the Nobel prize in 1922 for his work on the photoelectric effect. In the same year Einstein was visiting the US to raise funding for the planned Hebrew University in Jerusalem. In the following years he traveled throughout the world, Japan, South America, Palestine, France, England holding many lectures. From 1925 to 1928 he was serving as Governor of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. In 1930 he accepted a chair at the Institute of Advanced Studies, Princeton and continued his assignment in Berlin. After the Nazis came to power in Germany in 1932 Einstein was never to return there. He was granted citizenship and permanent residency in the United States by 1935. In a letter to Franklin D. Roosevelt he submitted the proposal to build a nuclear bomb prior to the Nazis doing so. (As we all know) this kind of weapon eventually ended the war in the Pacific with Japan. Einstein was a pacifist throughout his whole life and he was actively voting against nuclear weapons and was urging all nations towards international peace. He died at Princeton on April 18, 1955 having appointed the Hebrew University to protect his name and personality. Albert Einstein is respected and known as the most famous physicist and scientist of the twentieth century. His findings "changed the world"."
