This stunning, first-of-a-kind silver Crown was issued by the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2003 to recognize the world treasure that is Victoria Falls. The 1,647 mile long Sambesi River near the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe arrives at Victoria Falls where the waters crash 5,570 feet into a 361 foot deep gorge called Smoky Thunder by the natives. Discovered in 1855 by Dr. David Livingstone, the falls were named Victoria Falls by him to honor Queen Victoria of England. This is the first time that a 3-D Hologram was minted onto a coin surface. By tilting the sky the 3-D effect is visible. The 2-D Hologram depicting the crashing water and the spray of Victoria Falls is minted with the same shim.
