The Indian Head Cent was designed by James B. Longacre (1794-1869) and was first issued in 1859. The first year featured a laurel wreath on the reverse. After the first year the design was changed to the oak wreath with a small shield. Coins of 1859 and the early sixties show a rounded bust while late versions have a pointed bust. Would make a great gift for that favorite numismatist in your life, even if that happens to be you.
