I have bought coins from a lot of different dealers and all of the use the protective mailer that has the sticky sides that stick together to protect the coins. You guys are the only ones to put a little tab in the middle to make it easier to open. My fingers are not as nimble as they used to be so opening those things can be fustrating. Thank you for being extra considerate of your customers by adding that little piece of cardboard tab.

Hi Dan, I made a recent purchase from your website of 1000 and 500 unsearched bulk wheat cents (no order number on the invoice). I was disappointed, in general, with the purchase. Most coins were from the 1950s. There were a few bright spots, like the 1909 vdb. No better grade pennies from the teens through the 30s and no key dates. The two lots appeared to be mostly rejects, a small proportion of truly cull coins, a few modern lincolns, and a fair percentage of coins that appeared to have been unearthed and cleaned. I certainly did not expect the purchase to be a "break-even" proposition, but I would rate the value received versus expense on the low side and could not reasonably recommend this item to future customers.

Hello Michael and thank you for your feedback.  Unfortunately, the very nature of unsearched coins is that we have no idea what you are going to get.  We purchase Wheat Cents from many different sources, dump them in tubs and run them through the counting machine as we fill orders.  You mention there were no key dates, however, the odds of finding a key date are very much against you, not because we search the coins, but because the mintages for key dates are so small compared to the rest of the coins that were produced.

We have had many customers who have been delighted with the mix they received as well as others who were disappointed.

Mr. Lewis, Black Mountain Coins, First I would like to thank you for having, selling and getting me the 1916 Verdun Medal! I have been looking for one for months and luckily you had it.

Please let me take a minute of your time to tell the story behind what was so very important to me. In 1916 my great grandfather was in the battle of Verdun with the American Volunteer Ambulance Corps transporting the French wounded from the battle field. He then became a pilot and fought along- side of the French battling the Germans in the air. He fought also at Argonne and St Mihiel during WWI. The great thing is he lived through all of this. Later, the citizens of Verdun awarded the medal to the people who stood beside them through this time of war. In 1942 my father joined the U.S. Navy as a UDT #5 (Underwater Demolition Team #5)(Navy Seal before there were Navy Seals). He fought in the Pacific setting mines in the Japanese harbors along with a lot of other incredible things. Before he left off to war, my great grandmother gave him this medal to keep him safe.

Unfortunately my great grandfather has all ready passed. My father was shot and wounded during WWII but lived. He had gotten sick another time and they took him off of his ship and put him in the hospital. During that time, the ship that he was assigned to was sunk with no survivors. Nevertheless, he lived and married my mother, which brings this to me. When I was seventeen I went into the U.S. Marine Corps. Before I left for boot camp my father pulled me to the side and told me to wear this with honor and it would keep me safe. I have received the Medal of Valor but it still was not as important to me as this Verdun medal. The loss of many of my friends keeps me to this day from really getting into my experiences during my time in....so...I will just say, I'm still here! The men in my family have been in almost every conflict you can come up with. Nam, WWII, WWI, Civil War, Adams Raiders in the Revolutionary War, all the back to the Highlands of Scotland. I have worn this medal around my neck for many, many years. At some point or another it came off and I was unable to find it "anywhere". I felt like I had let down all who had came before me. I searched and searched and was unable to find another. I'm sure you understand that they did not make many of them. I came across your site Black Mountain Coins and to my VERY BIG SURPRISE, you had one. Trust me when I tell you, I would have paid three times the cost to get it. I know it is not the original but it eases my heart to know I can still wear it and pass it down to one of my sons.

My order arrived today and I do appreciate the fast shipping. I was very pleased with the coin. Just as advertised. And thanks for the included free pocket loupe. It will come in handy as I'm also a metal detectorist and can use it in the field. I also liked the screw on/off type of airtite. Easy to get on/off which is very convenient for me as a photographer. Many times the coin slab/holder has scratches/marks on it which detract from the beauty of the coin under macro photography. I am a bit curious though as to the the shipping charge of $6.88 when the actual USPS charge was only $1.90? I'm very impressed with your web site and am astonished at the wide and varied myriad of world coins you have to offer. It's almost an all-in-one shopping stop. I've already got my eye on a couple of others and will be visiting again.

 For many years I believed as you did, that the cost to ship an item was limited to the cost of the postage.  About three years ago, when we were doing a significant amount of internet sales but not making any money, I hired a consulting firm to come in and evaluate our business and business practices. I was absolutely blown away when I was told that for the previous 1,000 transactions our actual cost, including salaries, shipping materials and postage fees was $7,012.00, or $7.012 per item shipped.  It was at the time that we raised the Free Shipping offer to $75 from the previous $50 threshold (and if our material and postage costs keep escalating, we may have to make that figure $100 before too long). So unfortunately, we have to keep charging what seem to be high fees for orders under $75, because if we don’t, we can actually lose money on some of the transactions.  We do try to make up for it by giving our customers some great product selections as well as what I consider to be the best customer service in the business.

Hi Dan, I'm told that you are on vacation right now, I'm sure it was overdue! I just wanted to tell you about a couple things that happened during your absence. On Monday morning, 8/27, I spotted a Palau coin I had been looking for on your eBay listing, but it was not listed on your main website. I don't like to use eBay, so I called your store early in the morning and Clark answered the phone. I explained the situation and he either moved or had the coin moved to your website, called me back and I was able to order the coin in my usual manner. Clark said he was your phtographer. I don't know if he works in sales also, but he was very friendly and helpful! Later in the day, another situation came up involving the Cook Islands endangered wildlife series. This time Connie helped me out. I won't bore you with the details, as it gets a little involved, but she was extremely patient and understanding with me and I put her to a lot of trouble. She did everything that was necessary and thanks to Connie's efforts, I can now say that I have an ORIGINAL set of the Cook Islands series (all 24 coins AND all dated 1990)! So, when you left the ship this week, you left it in very good hands. I must compliment you on the marvelous team you have put together! You should be proud of them and yourself!
